Jon has been writing about tech for over 6 years. His work includes everything from software reviews to troubleshooting guides, definitions of complex technology terms, and opinion articles. His content can be seen on Lifewire, TechNorms, Online-Tech-Tips, Guiding Tech, and Help Desk Geek.
Before moving into writing, Jon was a help desk technician for an airplane parts manufacturer where he provided on-site and remote tech support for hundreds of employees across three locations. His work there involved handling all the help desk support tickets, which included upgrading computer hardware and software, troubleshooting why programs weren't working as they should, educating co-workers on how to use software, configuring phones and computers, managing license servers, and installing networking hardware.
Working directly with users to understand their problems even when they didn’t know how to describe them is what enabled Jon to translate complex ideas and guides into easily digestible learning experiences.
My primary computer is a custom-built, but fairly basic Windows PC that I’ve had since around 2014. Currently, Windows 8 is installed to a 1 TB drive and another 1 TB drive stores backups, videos, music, and other downloads. There’s 12 GB of RAM in this computer to help run my virtual machines, which is how I access all the other versions of Windows, Ubuntu, and macOS.
There are three monitors attached to my computer. One is a widescreen ASUS monitor that I use as my primary display, and the two Dell’s on either side are for extra space when I need it.
My primary phone is a Pixel 3, but I use an iPhone 6, an iPad, and a couple older Android phones for double-checking any work associated with those devices.
Jon graduated from Wichita Technical Institute in 2010 with six IT certifications:
MCTS: Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure
MCTS: Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
MCTS: Configuring Windows Vista
