New iPad Pro 2022: Price, Release Date, Specs, News, and Rumors

Everything you need to know about Apple's 6th gen iPad Pro

The current iPad Pro was just released in May 2021, so it’s still too early to confirm anything about next year’s tablet. We haven't heard much thus far, but some rumors making their way around include a 2022 iPad Pro that has wireless charging and reverse wireless charging to juice up your other devices, plus horizontally placed cameras.

When Will the iPad Pro 2022 Be Released?

There’s no absolute guarantee right now there will even be another iPad Pro, but there’s also no reason to think otherwise. Apple has come out with a new iPad Pro nearly every year since the first version in 2015.

Lifewire’s Release Date Estimate

Past iPad Pro release dates don’t follow a hard schedule, and since we’re still so far out from a release, we can’t make a super accurate prediction. Going off the 2020 and 2021 iPads, we can estimate that the 2022 iPad Pro release date will be in the spring, maybe March or April. We'll have a better idea once we know Apple's event schedule for next year.

2022 iPad Pro Price Rumors

Based on prior Pro-level tablets from Apple, we can assume that prices for next year's tablet will be similar maybe even a little higher.

The 11-inch tablet could range from around $800 to $2,000 for the Wi-Fi model and $1,200 to $2,200 for the mobile/cellular models. The 12.9-inch iPad Pros might cost anywhere from $1,300 to $2,400 for the ones with just Wi-Fi, and $1,500 to $2,500 if you want mobile connectivity.

While we'd love to see these prices lowered, we're not holding our breath. Apple did sell some models of the iPad Pro 4th generation for less than 3rd generation models, but Apple has been adding more technology to the iPads which generally increases the price (see 2021 iPad Pro).

Pre-Order Information

Pre-orders should commence shortly after Apple reveals the tablet. We’ll have all the details on announcement day.

iPad Pro 2022 Features

There really isn't a lot to learn thus far since we're so many months away from this iPad's release.

If the 2022 iPad Pro comes out before September 2022, it'll run iPadOS 15 since new OS updates typically arrive in the fall. However, if it hits store shelves in a later month, such as November, then it makes sense that it'll ship out with the latest OS version, presumably iPadOS 16.

iPad Pro 2022 Specs and Hardware

Surprisingly, even this soon after the current iPad Pro release, there are already a few rumors claiming the next iPad Pro’s hardware details.

According to a Bloomberg report, the 2022 version will switch to a glass back as opposed to aluminum. This will, according to the source, enable wireless charging for the tablet. It would also allow for another feature that is rumored: Reverse charging. This would let you flip your tablet over and use its power to charge your other Apple products, like your smartwatch or AirPods.

Some things we can make educated guesses on include the screen size, RAM, and storage capacity. We'll likely see a repeat of past years, so expect 12.9-inch and 11-inch models ranging in storage capacity from 128 GB to 2 TB. RAM could remain unchanged at 8 GB up to 16 GB, depending on the model. There will be both Wi-Fi and cellular versions available.

The 2021 iPad Pro introduced Mini LED in the 12.9" model. There's been talks Apple will commit to OLED for some iPads in 2022, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the company is sticking to Mini LED for the Pro-grade tablets.

An Apple analyst that goes by Dylan on Twitter, claims that the company is moving toward iPad cameras that are positioned horizontally to encourage landscape mode. We could see this transition take hold in the 2022 Pro models.

Be sure to check back for updates. As always, rumors and leaks on the next iPad Pro's specs will spill as we move closer to 2022. Maybe we'll hear that Apple will bundle the Apple Pencil with this iPad...who knows!
